Movie Talk

Movie Mini-Course for English Learners

Are you a real film lover?

Do you wanna talk about all the great movies you watch with your movie-loving friends?

But all you can say in English is I liked the film; it was interesting!

The truth is that it’s not easy to give your opinion about films in English.

This mini-course will give you basic movie vocabulary, so you can have interesting conversations about cinema in English.

It’s specifically for English learners who have no knowledge of movie vocabulary.

We're going to learn cinematic terms by watching and analyzing a short film.

  • How to answer the question: How was the movie?
  • How to give your opinion about movies.
  • Adjectives to describe films.
  • Useful expressions to talk about different aspects of the film (screenplay, dialogues, actors, plot, music, camera operations).

My name is Alexandra Kapinya. I’m an English teacher and movie blogger. I got my university degree in modern languages and did some film studies related to the classics of the Hollywood studio era, with a focus on Billy Wilder.

I created this course because I believe in the power of films. I think they don’t just improve our language skills, but their amazing and inspiring stories enrich our lives.

Apart from English, I’ve learned Spanish and Italian, basically by watching films. At that time there weren’t any materials available to study languages with films, so I created them. While I was watching movies, I took notes and then made my own film vocabulary and exercises.

I’ve always dreamed of a short movie club specifically for English learners. Now, thanks to the Internet, you can be part of it, no matter where you live. You can connect with other language learners and movie lovers from around the world. How amazing is that?
